I drew a picture of one of the highschool students today while she listened to the overview during her first day in the visual arts program at OSA (Oakland School For The Arts).

Awesome drawing...and how wonderful that you can do what you LOVE for your living! You are inspirational.
ReplyDeleteI shared my drawing exercise on my blog as well yesterday...just FYI.
Have a great week!
Thank you so much Lisa! I'm very glad to be able to inspire people, it's what my mentor did for me and I wanted to be just like him.
DeleteYes Yes!!! YOUR CONTOUR DRAWING WAS INCREDIBLE (can't stress that enough). Keep doing it, and when you get tired of it do it more, and more - and more... and MORE!!! The contour exercise will help you be able to see what is actually in front of you vs. what you think is there. You will be able to confidently wiggle beautiful depictions in your art with very little effort. This will help you crank out lots of work like a machine with little to no fatigue while maintaining the aesthetic quality and integrity in the work.
Draw everything you can from like and stay away from photos.
If you just have to draw from photos, make sure you do 4 -5 contour drawings as warm-up before you begin your session. As my mentor told me, Look at the life drawing as your veggies (dinner) and drawing from imagination (or photos) as dessert.
beautiful! I love your textures and I love her hair!
ReplyDeleteThanks Myra! I am getting into hair deeply at this point in my development. I find it fascinating how it grows out of the scalp and how the layers fall upon each other. Peter Paul Rubens is a great artist to look at for inspiration when it comes to drawing hair and also Di Vinci.
